CATS

The Central Area Transmission System (CATS) is a natural gas transportation and processing system. CATS Terminal receives gas 404km via a transmission pipeline from the Central North Sea to Teesside in the North East of England and provides the National Transmission System with approximately 10% of UK demand. CATS started operating in 1993 and has 15km of pipelines onshore in the Seal Sands, Brand Sands and Redcar areas of Teesside.

CEMEX

CEMEX UK’s Rugby plant makes its cement using chalk from Kensworth quarry near Dunstable and clay from Southam quarry some 11 miles from Rugby. Around 4,000 cubic metres of chalk slurry is pumped underground along a 57-mile pipeline from Kensworth each day, passing under the M1 four times on its journey and saving up to 400 lorry movements every day.
